Homemade Substitutes for Cerelac Stage 1: 6months+


When you think of semisolids to your baby, “Cerelac” is the first food that flashes to your mind. Highly recommended by Doctors and food experts, cerelac is proven to be the safest and mild baby food from decades ago. Also, this packed baby food is the mom’s best friend while on journey.

Now how about making your own homemade cerelac of all flavors? The recipes and procedure are simple and highly economical, moreover you will have the joy of DIY for your little ones.


Homemade Substitutes for Cerelac Stage 1: 6 months+


Here are 4 different flavors of Homemade Cerelac Stage 1: 6 months+

Rice: 
Homemade Instant Rice Flavor Cerelac:

Clean wash Rice Flakes (white rice or parboiled rice) and dry them overnight. Dry them over sunlight or air.
Once the rice flakes are moist free, grind them to fine powder.
Store them in a moist free hygiene air tight container.

Steps:

Pour drinking water in a clean utensil. Add a scoop full of rice powder and stir well to dissolve.
Add sugar/ rock candy and boil the solution till semisolid.
Switch off the flame, add formula milk to give a better taste.
Feed the porridge while warm.

Wheat:
Homemade Instant Wheat Flavor Cerelac:

Clean wash whole wheat grains and dry them over sunlight or air.
Once the wheat grains are moist free, grind them to fine powder.
Store them in a moist free hygiene air tight container.

Steps:

Pour drinking water in a clean utensil. Add a scoop full of whole wheat powder and stir well to dissolve.
Add sugar/ rock candy and boil the solution till semisolid.
Switch off the flame and add formula milk.
Feed the porridge while warm.

Wheat Apple:
Homemade Instant Wheat Flavor Cerelac:

Clean wash whole wheat grains and dry them over sunlight.
Grind the moist free grains to finest form and store them dry.
Clean wash a fresh apple. Peel and chop apple to chunks.

Steps:

Pour drinking water in a clean utensil. Add a scoop full of whole wheat powder and stir well to dissolve.
Add sugar/ rock candy and boil the solution till semisolid.
Switch off the flame.
In a separate utensil boil apple chunks for 5 to 8 minutes and mash them to thick puree.
Now pour apple puree and formula milk to the boiled wheat porridge and stir well.
Feed the porridge while warm. Apple gives a great flavor to the baby porridge.

Note: Boiling apple for infants below 8 months is necessary to avoid food allergy.

Shishu aahaar Wheat Rice Moong Dal Khichdi:

This recipe is nutritious and perfect as a staple baby food.

Ingredients:

Rice
Cracked wheat
Split green gram/ moong dal

Homemade Wheat Rice Moong Dal Khichdi:

Take equal quantities of rice, cracked wheat and moong dal. A healthy active 6 months+ baby requires 3 spoons each.
Clean wash them to remove starch and drain away water.
Boil all the ingredients together immersed with water in a pressure cooker till it cooks well.
Once cooked to soft, mash them to smooth as your baby has not introduced teething.
You can add pure cow’s ghee and salt/sugar according to your baby’s choice.

Note: The ingredients used here does not cause any food allergies and constipation.


Tips:
Since it is homemade free from all preservatives, its shelf life does not last long.
Keep them freshly prepared weekly. Do not store the powdered form for more than 10 days.
Avoid moisture contact which encourages fungal birth.
