Evening time is specially designated for small snacks that give great excitement to our taste buds.
While sipping hot tea/coffee, it is habitual to munch on something crunchy and yummy. It is usually chips, fritters, papads, pakodas, and similar delicacies.
Today we share here a simple and easy recipe of preparing green peas vada or pakoda as it is generally called.

You will need

100 g dry green peas
Half cup thick dry beaten rice powder
3-4 spoon corn flour or rice flour
Half spoon red chilli powder
Half spoon turmeric powder
Curry leaves
Salt as required
2 spoon grated coconut (optional)
Finely chopped onion and garlic (optional)

Soak 100 grams of green peas in water for atleast 8 hours or overnight.

When you are about to prepare the pakoda, drain the water used for soaking and thoroughly wash the peas again.

Add the peas to the mixer jar and run it for just 5 – 10 seconds. Make sure that the peas do not become smooth like paste. It should be ground coarsely.

Transfer the peas into a wide mixing bowl.

To the mixing bowl add powdered dry beaten rice, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, corn flour, curry leaves, hing, and salt and mix well. Avoid adding water. 

Mix it tightly and prepare tiny balls. Press with fingers and make it flat like discs. If the discs do not stay intact add little water, say about 2 spoons, and mix well again. This is a trial and error step to bring the right consistency. 

Optionally you may also add little grated coconut, finely chopped onion and garlic pieces for softness.

Heat oil over low flame. Once the oil is ready for deep frying, drop the discs and fry until they turn golden brown and crisp.

Transfer the fried discs over kitchen tissues/towel to soak any extra oil. The powdered poha/beaten rice added brings amazing crispness and the crunchy taste when you bite.
