Mysore Palace Illumination and Sound-Light Show

Mysore is renowned for Amba Vilas, also known as Mysore Palace. Mysore Palace is the official residence of Wodeyars, the royal family of Mysore.

Mysore Palace is the main attraction for tourists who plan to visit South India.
The history of Mysore and its palaces goes behind to centuries ago. That is a whole different topic in itself.

The main beauty is witnessed when the lighting event of the palace takes place.

Mysore Palace Illumination:

The palace lighting takes place on every Sunday and other national or government holidays between 7.00 PM to 8.00 PM

There are about a lakh incandescent lamps that lights up this historical structure. During Dasara, the palace illumination is done for a complete 2 hours late in the evening at around 7.00 PM to 9.00 PM throughout the nine days of festivities.

Visitors will need many eyes to enjoy the sight of the whole city.

There is no entrance ticket/fee to watch the palace illumination. Just walk in through the palace gates and enjoy the beauty at the palace grounds.

Sound & Light Show at Mysore Palace:

This show is held at the grounds in front of the palace. It runs for about 45 minutes from 7.00 pm to 7.45 pm on all week days expect Sundays & Govt. Holidays.

Following the Sound & Light Show one can witness the entire Palace Illumination too for few minutes, may be about 5 minutes (not very sure).

This show demands for tickets. It costs a mere Rs 40 / head for Indian adults. The rate is different for NRI vistors. But the show is worth a lot more than the ticket money.

Words cannot explain the beauty of colorfull lights that falls on the Palace structure. Throughout the combinations of sound and light show there is narration of the history of Mysore Kingdom, the rule of Wodeyars, their achievements in various fields, the famous emperors, the KRS Dam, ofcourse the curse on the Kingdom. As of now, only the Kannada version of the narration is present.

Sandalwood actors Ramesh Aravind, Srinath, Anu Prabhakar, Mico Manju, C R Simha, Bhavana, Jayanthi, Srinivas Murthy and Sharath Lohitashwa have lent their voice for the narration of the story in Kannada version.

There are news about the Hindi and the English versions being prepared.
